10,000 plastic ducks to be released
More than 10,000 plastic ducks are expected to be released on the Garonne River in Toulouse on 23 September 2018. It’s a giant raffle in the form of a race, and the event is collecting donations for Associations.
It seems a strange decision to release 10,000 plastic ducks into the water, when all around us there are multiple projects to reduce plastic in our waterways and seas.
According to France 3, the concept is simple. Each raffle ticket corresponds to a numbered duck. On the day of the race, they will all be released into the Garonne. The first duck to cross the finish line will win the “Jackpot".
The donations collected will support the charitable Associations affiliated to the project. Each duck is sold for €3 on behalf of an Association.
The day is organised by Rotaract and the Rotary club in Toulouse, and will be punctuated with various activities such as duck fishing, dance shows and musical performances.
Hopefully their final activity will be a duck counting and retrieving activity, to ensure that thousands of ducks don’t end up in the sea.
