19 departments on orange heatwave alert

19 departments are on ‘orange’ heatwave alert, as temperatures of up to 40.2 degrees have been recorded. Conditions are expected to last until at least next Tuesday.

Météo France said: “Only the north-west edge will remain in temperatures of lower than 35°C.”

The full list of departments on heatwave alert is as follows:

Bas-Rhin, Haut-Rhin, Côte d’Or, Saône-et-Loire, Rhône, Isère, Ardèche, Drôme, Gard, Vaucluse, Bouches-du-Rhône, Var, Alpes-Maritimes, Hérault, Aude, Pyrénées-Orientales, Haute-Corse and Corse du Sud.

Keep cool, take on lots of water, and wear a hat if you are outside!
