2016 Blanquette de Limoux, Château Rives Blanques

Rosemary George MW, Dec 22

2016 Blanquette de Limoux, Château Rives Blanques – 12.75€

This is the time of year for festive bubbles, but instead of champagne, opt for the Languedoc’s very own sparkling wine, Blanquette de Limoux.

It claims an even older history than champagne, and has a wonderful originality with the presence of the Mauzac grape in the blend. This gives some lovely herbal flavours, with fresh acidity. On the other hand, if you prefer something creamier, Crémant de Limoux is the other option, which may include Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Château Rives Blanques was started by an Irish Dutch couple, Jan and Caryl Panman, and they give their Blanquette de Limoux as much care and attention as their Crémant, and the price is the same for both wines.
