215 kgs of ammunition recovered from Canal du Midi
The cleaning operation which has been on-going this week in the Canal du Midi at Villeneuve-lès-Béziers, has uncovered 215 kgs of world war two ammunition.
The ammunition was French and German, and the team found 14 German anti-tank mines, 12 German shells, 5 French shells, 5 grenades as well as 12.7 mm cartridges.
In a statement, the sub-prefect of Béziers thanked residents who respectfully complied with the safety instructions.
