If you're looking for food with any flair, inventiveness or lots of flavour, avoid this restaurant. This is Languedoc cuisine at its most basic - lots of unflavoured meat dumped unceremoniously on a plate. The restaurant is in a large beer hall type room with an impressive ceiling - in the tiny hamlet of Fauzan. The punters are mostly ageing farmers and their dumpy wives, who come here for good, solid traditional fare - thickly sliced ham, home-made (rather tasteless) pates, pan-fried shrimp (which were tough) and roast pintard (a little dry, with no hint of herbs or garlic). Their specialty desert is baked alaska - which is alright.

Great place to eat both in summer and winter. Lots of local dishes well cooked - lamb, duck etc. Cooked outside over old vines in the summer. Good selection of local wines. Always a nice welcome from the hosts.

Evening meal was expensive for the amount and quality. Nearby restaurants provide better value for money. Friendly staff and good sitting out under the trees.

The restaurant offers three menu's, 16 € for the menu du jour, 25 € and 35 €. We chose the 25 € menu which consisted of an amuse-bouche, an entrée, a main course and either a cheese course or dessert. The meal started with homemade cheese straws with our first glass of wine. This was a nice touch as nibbles are usually only served if an apéritif is ordered. The amuse-bouche was an oyster gratinéed with mushroom cream sauce. The flavor of both shallots and mushrooms came through without hiding the taste of the warmed oyster and the gratinéed cream on top was perfectly puffed and golden. I tried the soupe de poisson for an entrée. It was gorgeous! Most of the fish soup I've had in this area has been a bit thin and watery but this was just the right thickness, with tomatoes and herbs and a delicious fish flavor. My husband tried the terrine de gibiers (a pâté of game meat) served with a sauce gribiche and homemade toasts. We were both very happy with our choices. We had the same main course, a boneless leg of capon, rolled and cooked in a cocotte (a covered casserole dish) and served with a quenelle of cooked red cabbage on mashed potatoes with sautéd carrots and sautéd wild mushrooms on either side. The flavor of everything was perfect and I was very happy with the variety of vegetables. We both decided to have dessert instead of cheese. I chose the trio of homemade sorbets and was sadly disappointed. The flavors of the day were strawberry, orange and apple. The strawberry was good but the orange was mediocre and the apple was too icy and had very little flavor. My husband had the apple crumble. It was good, with slices of kiwi fruit mixed into the apple and a nice aroma of crushed almonds coming from the crumble topping, but not exceptional. Overall, L'Auberge Côté Jardin was a great restaurant. We loved the food and the service was very friendly. Our server kindly offered to help us choose wine to go with our meal and wanted to practice his English with us. The restaurant's only weakness was the desserts, but the quality of the savory courses more than made up for it. We enjoyed the dining room as we ate here in December but they have a beautiful terrace to enjoy in the summer months.

La Fourchette Folle, on the Canal du Midi, is run by an English family hoping to become "accepted". The word-of-mouth from our French friends is that they have succeeded. There is a formal upstairs restaurant but it's more fun eating in the little bar downstairs, listening to the exchanges between the staff and their French customers. We lunched there with French friends on the plat du jour which turned out to be full English breakfast - poached eggs with mayonnaise and a demi-litre of red. Our French friend re-wrote the finer points of the menu during lunch! Go there for a honest food and a laugh.

This restaurant and bar found in the tiny village of Roubia is absolutely wonderful. Just going into the bar you get the whole french feeling' that you just don't get in England. We experienced great conversations and deliberations with the really friendly bar staff and customers who always can give you their outlook on life in general and you get to hear all the village gossip. The restaurant next door is beautifully and tastefully decorated but the best part is the food that they serve. There doesn't seem to be much on your plate for dinner but once you start to taste the fresh flavours of the food you can appreciate the work that has gone into purchasing the freshest ingredients and putting them together in a new and vibrant way. Whilst we were there Sunday lunches were being served, these are a work of art on their own and you certainly leave the table feeling comforted and full. The soups some highly recommended. Everything about this place is friendly, nothing is too much trouble and we are definately going to visit again when in the region.

This restaurant overlooks the Canal du Midi and as far as I could tell is the only restaurant in the village. It provides lovely wood fired pizzas; my fellow diner had one of these and was very pleased with it. For starters I enjoyed a mozzarella salad however far better than this was my friends curried scampi, sounds strange I know and we all deliberated whether he should have ordered it, however when it came we all had food envy as it was delicious – be sure to order some when you go! For mains I enjoyed moules & frites this again was good however, not as good as my friends main, he ordered duck breast and I have never seen a piece duck breast quite like it - it was huge!! And very tasty, cooked to perfection. If you going to have any duck during your holiday make sure its here! We sat outside at this restaurant, we really enjoyed our meal here, the waitress was friendly and presented service with a smile which I believe goes a long way. The owner of this restaurant is the chef, he obviously takes pride in his food and the service provided which shone through during our meal. Highly Recommended!!

On the right night in the summer this small restaurant, bordering on the Canal has a perfect setting. The food we found much more adventurous than usual, my husband chose Fish Cakes with an Asian flavour which were perfect. The food was good and the service pleasant and welcoming. Recommended wine Chateau Paraza.Necessary to telephone to confirm opening hours and also to reserve table outside.

This little hidden restaurant on a locker stairs offers wonderful food. The restaurant is familiy owned: Maman is cooking, the daughter does the service and the father recommends the wines. Food is delicious. You will have a big choice of wonderful creations for a reasonable price. A must see!! and eat!!

They are open at weekends in the winter. Agree with previous reviewer on process. Menu on our visit was imaginative. The wine list is manageable and has a good selection from local appellations.Ambience is rated for a cold november evening Difficult to find by road as the entrance is on the Roubia road 50 metres from the junction with the Beziers to Carcassonne road and then along the side of the canal to the lock.

This restaurant opened at the start of Summer 09 and seems to have been full ever since. Food is elegantly presented and good quality, serving a similar menu to most of the local restuarants. Service is sometimes slow (mainly due to sheer volume of other diners). Lunch time menu is especially good value.
