A61 work starts, 2023 scheduled finish
Work has begun on the A61 to widen each side to three lanes. Work is scheduled to continue until 2023.
40,000 vehicles use the A61 daily between Toulouse and Narbonne, up to 80,000 in summer. The first phase of 2x3 lanes has begun. Two sections of 14 km and 20 km are under construction, out of a total of 140 km.
Phase one is between the interchange to Andorra and the Port Lauragais area. Between 100 and 150 people will be working there every day.
In the vicinity of the construction areas, the traffic lane widths are reduced and the speed limit is reduced to 90km / h for all vehicles. Occasionally, interchanges may be closed.
The other 20 km construction area has started between Lézignan- Corbières and the junction to the A9. The cost is between 80 and 90 million euros for this single phase, and is entirely funded by Vinci.
