AIDS associations denounce shortage of free condoms

France 3/Scoop, Jun 19

Associations fighting against HIV / AIDS, including Act up Sud Ouest and Arc en ciel Toulouse-Occitanie, are worried about the lack of free condoms in the region.

Since last December, many regional health agencies who provide free contreception are having their budgets cut to such an extent, that this service is suffering.

Associations like Act up Sud Ouest organise 130 walk-ins every year to educate people about sexually transmitted diseases. Nearly 20,000 condoms are distributed.

“This situation could put our associations in great danger and force us to cut back on prevention actions if stocks are not renewed very quickly,” said Louise Lourdou, president of the association.

The Ministry of Health has declined to comment publicly so far.
