Alès attacker of prostitutes gets 4 years jail
A 32 year old man was arrested last week in Alès, Gard, after an investigation into attacks on prostitutes. He remained in prison until his court case on Tuesday.
The first known attack was May 2 in Vic-le-Fesq, on the road to Sommières. The victim was punched twice in the face, then pulled by her hair to the ground, and struck several times with a stone.
While in custody, the respondent explained that, returning from a visit to his mother’s home in Saint-Hilaire-de-Brethmas, he stopped to ask for the services of a prostitute, and she allegedly spat in his face.
The second attack took place on July 9, at St. Theodorit. This time, according to the press, the defendant was “lacking in ardour”, and so the prostitute asked him for more money for her time. In return, she received four hard punches, breaking several teeth. She said in court, “I live in fear of men, and I have to use a straw to eat. He’s ruined my life.”
The lawyer of the second victim, Marie-Christel Goubet highlighted the “violence and lack of reasoning“, noting that “in the end, we do not understand the why or how”.
While wondering if there are other victims who haven’t come forward, François Schneider, the public prosecutor, pointed to “gratuitous, methodical and repeated violence….it is unimaginable to let him go”.
The 32-year-old was sentenced to five years imprisonment, one of which is suspended, with a duty of care and compensation for the victim present at the hearing.
