Another tonne of cannabis seized on the A9
Customs officials in Narbonne, Aude seized 1,068 kg of cannabis in a truck supposedly transporting empty wooden crates from Spain to Greece. Nearly three tonnes have already been seized on the A9 in a heavy goods vehicle earlier this month.
The vehicle was pulled over between Perpignan and Montpellier. The customs officials uncovered black plastic bags containing cannabis resin, and silver bags containing cannabis herb.
After the 2.9 tonnes discovered in a truck on April 2, this new find brings the total to 3,962 kg of cannabis seized in less than fifteen days on the A9.
“I congratulate the Narbonne customs officers for these two important cannabis seizures, one after the other, which testifies to the quality of the working methods in terms of targeting and control”, Minister Gerald Darmanin said in a statement.
The value of the merchandise is estimated at nearly 8 million euros on the street.
The driver, who claimed to be going to Greece to deliver wooden crates, was first placed in the custody of the customs authority and then handed over to the judicial police at Perpignan.
