Great Days Out

Aumelas - ruined castle

Robin Hicks, Mar 24

Granted - the little town/village does not present well but above......

Just follow this sign and keep bearing to the left on the road until you have to park - unless you have great ground clearance! The walk is steepish but worth every step.

And as you ascend you wil find helpful botanic notes along the path. The chapel has been re-roofed and lightly renovated.  The fine central tower looms over the valley. The view from the top is certainly worthwhile.

The castle dates from the XII century - and is off the D 139. Afterwards head to the busy town of Cournonterral for lunch - a gem of a walled town which seems to have escaped many of the local guide books.
