Autopsy on whale revealed it died of exhaustion

MidiLibre/Scoop, Dec 14

The whale which was found at the port of Saint-Cyprien on Tuesday of this week was found to have died from exhaustion, according to experts.

An autopsy was carried out on the 30 ton whale. Over 17 metres long, the 10 year old whale was found with multiple injuries. Xavier Rozec, spokesperson from the marine park Golf du Lion, delivered the results of the autopsy:

“The mammal was in poor health, he hadn’t eaten for a long time, and he had lost his instinctive behaviour and his sense of direction. He ended up in waters which was too shallow, and rubbing against rocks caused multiple internal and external injuries. His heart was in bad shape. No plastic was found in his stomach, which is what we feared the most.“

The autopsy was carried out on the quayside.
