Bell tower struck by lightning collapses on houses

France 3/Scoop, Oct 9

Lightning struck and destroyed the top of the bell tower at Saint-Amans-Soult, Tarn on Tuesday morning.

“It was a storm, but it was not very spectacular,” explained a resident of the town, “and then all of a sudden, there was a huge noise and lightning struck the steeple of the church".

Part of the bell tower then collapsed onto six houses below it. Part of the roof was still threatening to fall during Tuesday afternoon.

Fortunately there were no casualties, and 19 people have been moved out of nearby houses for safety reasons.
