Boy saved from drowning, mother seeks rescuer

MidiLibre/Scoop, Jul 5

The mother of seven year old Yanis is trying to find a man who saved her son on Monday July 2 in Palavas.

The boy was swept out to sea, and a man in his thirties jumped in to the waves to save him from downing.

At the time, Sandra Ricordi was too shocked to thank him, but is now looking to find the man to personally thank him.

On Monday, Sandra, her sister-in-law Sihem and Yanis had just settled down on to the beach.

Yanis headed to the waves, and because he can’t swim, Sihem ran into the water to watch him. Suddenly a big swell arrived, and the little boy was swept out to sea. The two women tried to get close to him, but the waves were too strong. A few metres away, a man saw what was happening, and he launched himself towards Yanis and managed to drag him back. Two other men arrived and helped to get Sandra and her sister-in-law out of the water. The two women and the boy were taken to hospital for checks, but they were not injured.

“These men risked their lives for us - we will never forget them - we almost died,” said Sandra. “We want to find them to personally thank them.
