Bungling thief leaves bag in victim’s car

MidiLibre/Scoop, May 4

A 26-year-old woman from Montpellier was conned by someone claiming to be homeless because she was a battered wife, and was looking to get into a sheltered home. The victim gave her €36, which was all she had in her purse, and offered to drive her to the home.

On the way, the conwoman asked the driver if she could borrow her tablet to find out the opening hours of the home.

Tablet in hand, the thief got out at some traffic lights and fled….leaving her handbag behind.

The victim looked through the bag, and discovered a summons letter for a similar crime, delivered only 48 hours previously.

She was arrested that same evening at 19:45, on the rue du Faubourg-Figuerolles, Montpellier, just as she was about to repeat the same crime with another victim.
