Béziers lawyers on strike

MidiLibre/Scoop, Dec 12

40 lawyers were on strike in Béziers on Monday, on the occasion of the International Day of Human Rights.

The lawyers were demonstrating on the 70th anniversary of the signature of the convention of human rights. They gathered in front of the sub-prefecture about a reform synonymous with social regression that will remove jurisdictions to achieve savings, according to lawyers present who demonstrated for “a justice close to people”.

They also denounced the preventive arrests of the gilets jaunes last week.

“When we arrest someone it is because they have committed an offence. In this case it was obviously ‘preventative’” insisted Eric Guilhabert, president of the Béziers Bar Association.

The lawyers were on strike on Wednesday, and gathered at 11am in front of the sub-prefecture.
