Béziers stadium turf will be replaced soon

MidiLibre, Sep 21

The lawn at the stadium in Béziers is in shocking condition.

“The state of the lawn does not meet the standards and requirements of professional football and rugby leagues,” said a spokesperson from Béziers town hall.

The spokesperson went on to say that “given the heat wave that has recently hit Béziers, the lawn was impacted in early August by two fungi (pythium and sclerotinia rolfsii).

A fungicide treatment was immediately put in place and allowed to spread but the damage was done.” On 25 August, the national football league decided to postpone the match against Lens due to the state of the lawn which was considered impractical.

The decision to “urgently replace the turf of the Stade de la Méditerranée” was acknowledged by the town hall. The turf will be dug up in October and replaced with a temporary turf, with a final replacement due for next summer.

The football match Béziers - Auxerre (scheduled for 19 October), and the Pro D2 rugby match Béziers - Aurillac (26 October), are likely to be delayed.
