Béziers top lawyer and his wife imprisoned

A former president of the bar, and his wife, an accounting secretary for the bar, have been incarcerated in a fraud case.

Jean-Christophe Guigues, ex-dean of the bar association at Béziers, is in Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone prison, and Mme Guigues is in Nîmes women’s prison.

The two have been indicted in an open investigation for fraud, forgery and use of forgery, breach of trust, extortion, illegal practice of the banking profession and money laundering.

The couple’s lawyer Jean-Luc Forget, said "I do not want to talk about it. This is a very serious matter and for the moment my observations are submitted to the courts”.

"I confirm that the couple are currently in prison, both of whom were detained on Wednesday, 19 December," said the Beziers public prosecutor's office yesterday.
