Clermont-l’Hérault medical unit needs saving
Clermont-l’Hérault residents are mobilising to save their emergency medical unit.
The unit was set up in 2013 in order to reduce the response time for the communes near to Salagou.
The unit is due to close at the end of December, and a petition has been launched to save it.
How it works
In the rescue vehicle, firefighters from the Hérault are accompanied by a doctor. They provide first aid while waiting for the arrival of the SAMU 34, located about 50km away in Montpellier.
Since 2013, the medical unit has provided more than 1,500 emergency responses within 8 to 15 minutes, which is up to three times faster than units from Montpellier.
Residents fight to save the unit
Every Wednesday morning in the market at Clermont-l’Hérault, the group gathers more signatures for the creation of a long-term emergency mobile service. They have collected nearly 20,000 signatures, which represents just less than a quarter of the local population.
