Cold, rain, snow, 20 degrees cooler!

LanguedocLiving, Oct 25

An icy cold front will arrive in Occitanie this weekend. While many people have been in shorts this Thursday, they will be in jumpers and hats by Saturday!

The transition looks brutal. The Indian summer ends overnight in October, one of the hottest ever recorded. The arrival of a mass of cold polar air is on its way. Temperatures will fall sharply and with them, rain in the plains and snow on the reliefs will arrive, especially on the Pyrenees and the Massif Central.

In the south we will not really feel the temperature change until Saturday. According to Météo France, the temperatures expected this weekend should be about 3 to 7 degrees below the seasonal averages and be comparable to averages of November, or even December. We can expect a drop of 20 degrees in some areas.

No region will be spared by this first winter offensive, that will also result in the return of rain.

On Saturday the first flakes of snow will fall in high mountains but little by little the snow limit will drop to between 500m and 700m on Sunday, particularly in Aubrac, Margeride, Mont-Lozère, Mont-Aigoual, Espinouse, Cerdagne and Capcir.

50cm of snow is expected above 1,800m altitude.
