Cycle safety in Toulouse

MidiLibre/Scoop, Nov 18

Following the death of a cyclist in Toulouse on 13 November, questions are being asked about the safety of cyclists.

The fatal accident in Toulouse is rare, but it has raised some questions.

The Toulouse association Deux Pieds Deux Roues have made various recommendations.

- Truck drivers should be made aware and an additional mirror added to the main mirror to eliminate blind spots.
- There should be more traffic lights with a reserved space for cyclists at the front, so that they are not hidden at the side of vehicles. There are some, but there should be more.
- There should be a structured network of cycle paths with visible lines shown, it is too random currently.

Discussions are already underway to improve the safety of cyclists in 2019.
