Deadly flash floods in the Var

LanguedocLiving, Oct 11

Authorities from the Var declared that several vehicles had been swept into the sea between Saint-Maxime and Roquebrune after flash floods occurred on Wednesday night / Thursday morning.

The river Garonnette burst its banks, and cars were swept along in its path.

Searches were carried out during the night, but they had to be called off due to lack of visibility. Unfortunately on Thursday morning two bodies were found in the sea. The man and the woman had been in one of the cars which was washed into the sea (not the car in the photo).

According to La Depeche, searches continued throughout Thursday, as it was not clear whether anyone else was missing.

Over 210 mm of rain fell overnight.
