Designers from Alès develop chestnut cosmetics

France 3/Scoop, Jul 2

Two cosmetic researchers at the Ecole des Mines in Alès, have developed a powder foundation based on chestnut. The emblematic fruit of the Cevennes is revealed to have unexpected properties.

Julie and Adeline, the two researchers, had the idea to use chestnut to create a powder foundation that moisturises at the same time.

They use the pulp of the fruit, but also its shell and skin to extract the oil.

"We have done an analysis proving that there are the sugars and mineral compounds characteristic of the chestnut in a small sphere visible under the microscope, so we could validate the surface treatment with our technology," says Adeline Constance.

The goal is to now market the product, and are doing some crowd funding to raise funds for the project, which has already cost them €80,000.

5,000 compacts will be made in July and distributed in pharmacies.
