Eight years in Nîmes prison for killing her father
Carmen, 22, has been in court all week, on the charges of killing her father in 2016.
She shot her father in the back of the neck during a family row. The family lived in the shadow of the violent father, who often bullied his disabled wife by threatening to kill her if she ever left him. The children were equally bullied. Carmen, the eldest of the children, was trying to break up a family row, by shocking the father into silence by firing a bullet. Instead, she shot him in the neck, and he died almost instantly.
The father, Miguel Gabarri, site manager of 41 years, and a gypsy of Spanish origin, had terrorised the family, according to his wife’s family, who were in court. According to Miguel’s family, who were also in court, Miguel was a hardworking under-appreciated husband and father.
The two families have been feuding all week in court, and the atmosphere has been violent and ugly.
Finally the court came to the decision that Carmen would be sentenced to eight years in prison. This was a ‘light’ sentence according to the father’s gypsy family, because the maximum sentence could have been life in prison.
Carmen may have to face a few years behind bars, but according to her she has released the family from an ‘unbearable life’.
