Every department on orange alert till Thursday

LanguedocLiving, Feb 28

All departments in Occitanie are on orange alert until at least Thursday night after the heavy snowfall on Wednesday.

Between 5cm and 40cm have fallen in the region.

Air and road traffic has been hugely disrupted.

People were skiing in the Place de la Comedie and Park Peyrou in Montpellier, on the beaches at Palavas-les-Flots, Sète, around Nîmes arena, and on the Paul Riquet in Béziers!

Firefighters have treated around 100 people due to falls, and have been busy on the roads with traffic accidents.

Given the climatic conditions, trucks of more than 7.5 tonnes are forbidden on the roads from now until at least 10am on Thursday. This is for all national and departmental roads.

On the A9 motorway, many junctions were closed, forcing people to either go home or take another route.

In total there are 47 departments on alert in the country.

Stay home, stay safe, stay warm, it'll be over soon.
