Ex-Dean of law school facing violence and threats

MidiLibre/Scoop, May 2

The ex-Dean of Montpellier Univeristy Law Department has lodged a complaint about violent threats and insults.

Phillippe Pétel, who resigned from his position as Dean following the violent incidents that took place on the night of March 22 to 23 in a lecture hall at the Faculty of Law, has been receiving threats and insults against him and his family.

His lawyer Iris Christol reacted strongly to France Blue Herault: “He may have made a huge mistake of communication”, but “he does not deserve the treatment that he is getting, nobody deserves it." She confirmed that she had lodged a complaint for threats, insults and incitement to hatred against him.

His lawyer added: “Philippe Pétel, until a month ago, has always been respected, he is a moderate man”.

He and his family are being directly targeted on social media, and violent messages have been left on his answering machine. His relatives are also receiving similar treatment.
