Exhibitors at the 2016 Cracker Fair
In this article, we will walk you through the beautiful Château-Abbaye de Cassan, with details about all the exhibitors on the way. We’ll go through the courtyard, down past the Herborium and the ancient kitchen, nip to the café, along the Grand Gallery, we’ll take a trip around the 11th century chapel, and then finally through the beautiful rooms overlooking the terrace.
As you enter through the gates of the Château, you’re in the courtyard. Down each side of the courtyard, there are lots of lovely things to eat and drink. In the middle of the courtyard you’ll find some great exhibitors selling their wares. Further on towards the pond you’ll find more exhibitors, and then Santa Claus and some face-painting.

LAB' ART DE FER - Christophe - blacksmith artist, offers a demonstration / workshop for adults and children. Come and make a candlestick, it’s fun! You can buy Christmas gifts too.
JOHN PRICE BUTCHERS - A full supporting cast of all their lovely goodies – pies, sausages, bacon, gammon joints, all-white meat rolled turkey breast, joints and lots more.
LABOY – For all you hop lovers, we have a bar outside this year. Last year they were in the chapel, but this year they are selling bottled and draft beer outside. They also have infusions and bio plant syrups.
BLACHE COQUILLAGES – Fred and Sandrine are back with their oysters and mussels from Meze. To eat there with a glass of Picpoul de Pinet, or take away.
CHAMPAGNE CHARLES COLLIN - Since 1952 Charles Collin has developed quality champagnes from hand-picked grapes, matured for 3 years in our cellars. Come and have a drink for €3 a glass and take advantage of our promotional offers for the end of year celebrations.
L’OMNIBUS – Mobile restaurant selling quality burgers. It’s a double-decker bus, which you can book for evening parties.

LA CUISINE A GILLES - Gilles Aubert from Au Fil De L’Aire will be doing spit roast pork sandwiches.
LA FERME DU FINFOND - Roast chestnuts over a wood fire, fresh chestnuts to take home, and pots of chestnut cream.
CARLESS CAFÉ are back selling artisan bio teas, coffees, hot chocolate, warm wine, and caramelised peanuts.

LAABO BIIGA - Enjoy a Christmas mulled wine with spices, and taste our crepes, or munch on some traditional biscuits. You can also warm up with a good seasonal soup. All our ingredients are organic, and all profits go to the Association LAABO Biiga. This is fundraising for educating children and combatting malnutrition in Burkina Faso.
MR FISH AND CHIPS – The Cracker Fair wouldn’t be the same without fish and chips. As well as fish and chips though, there’ll be sausages and scampi too. Please form an orderly queue!

DEVAKI -The goods that I sell come from India and most of my selection is hand made with love and good ethics. You will discover bed covers stiched by hand - vintage and new, beautiful bags made with old embroideries , woollen shawls and many others decorative items. Sandrine Albu works with families who she has come to know well, and her sales help these families.
LE PETIT VANNIER - Le Petit Vannier offers a range of baskets, toy trunks and various wicker and rattan items. Also a collection of bags, made of natural fibres, to make your shopping ecological.
SANTA – Santa will be in the grotto in the large tent at the bottom of the courtyard (near the pond). He’ll be busy helping out with the other charities each morning, but you’ll find him in his grotto on Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon.
LANGUEDOC SOLIDARITY WITH REFUGEES (LSR) – Join us in Santa’s tent for face painting, a lucky dip with lovely prizes and information about how LSR is making the lives of refugees a little bit easier. When we all a do a little, a lot gets done.
As you come inside the Château from the courtyard through the left hand side door, you’ll come across the beautiful herbarium, made even more beautiful with the goodies inside from:
Catriona McLEAN – Garden tools, high-end gloves from Foxgloves and Goldleaf, secateurs, garden accessories, and Christmas wreathes.
The ancient kitchen, equipped with tools and copper pans will delight you. It’s brought back to life with:

The room which normally houses the mannequins showing some ancient costumes, will be home to the inside café for the weekend. You can find it by going straight on, past the Grand Gallery towards the back terrace.
KEN AND ALISON’S CATERING will again be offering refreshments to keep you going. Drinks include coffee, hot chocolate, tea, and mulled wine. Our new falafel sandwich will bring our sandwich choices to 5 and of course we'll have all of your favourites sweets including carrot cake, cocoa brownies, and red velvet cupcakes. You can find Ken and Alison and their smiling team at the end of the entrance corridor, or look for the signs to the indoor cafe. There's a tent on the back terrace just next to the café with tables and chairs.
The Grand Gallery
The Grand Gallery runs the length of the chateau, and is a light airy place, with an aspect to the central courtyard.

The 11th century chapel is a magnificent building, created by Guiraud, priest of Cassan, born 1070 in Puissalicon. The chapel was consecrated on October 6, 1115 by two archbishops and six bishops during a dazzling ceremony in the presence of a large crowd of people from all walks of life.

LA ROSE DE DAMAS - My weaving workshop is located at 16, rue Alfred Sabatier in Pezenas. I work on a jacquard loom that is two centuries old. In my shop you will find many brocade products: vests, ties, bags…as well as stoles and scarves in silk or cashmere.
L’ATELIER DE FLORENCE - For the past 10 years, we have been producing handcrafted linen and antique fabrics such as hemp, jute and mestizos. You'll find bread bags, hemp cushions, shopping bags, kits, , door stoppers, embroidered hearts, and items that smell of lavender.

As you come out of the chapel, running parallel to the Grand Gallery there are some lovely rooms, which are also full of exhibitors. With views out to the gardens and terrace, you can meander through the rooms. So turn right as you leave the chapel, and then take a left…
The Bishop’s bedroom has an ancient bed, which was used by the Bishop.
Chloe BERCOVICI - I create ceramic Raku jewellery. The designs I create allow me to play on the contrasts of colour and matter. In the asymmetry I seek the harmonious balance to achieve an aesthetic between sobriety and elegance. I draw my inspiration from the many forms of nature and modern art.
L’ATELIER DE SYLVIE - Restoration of furniture, old patina effects, decorative painting.
The music room has a grand piano, which is painted with a mural. Normally this is on full display, but for the Cracker Fair we’ve closed it up for safety reasons. The walls of the music room are decorated with a light sunny hand-painted mural.

The vestibule joins the Grand Gallery and the rooms looking out onto the terrace and gardens.
SOLIDARITE FRANCE SAHEL – This is an organisation which helps to finance an aid program for a village in Senegal. Cosmetic oils, soaps and products from Senegal are for sale.

The library, with its dark red lined walls, is a restful room brought to life by four interesting exhibitors.

Gaelle MARTINEZ – Textile creations, with a focus on children, puericulture, and ecological issues.
LA MAIN DES SABLES – David Santandreu is an expert on dyeing with woad, which used to be mass-produced in the region, before indigo plants were discovered in India. David is passionate about bringing this technique back into the region, and is currently working with the Chateau de la Serre. He is bringing his textiles dyed with his woad.
Annie LESAGE – I draw and paint watercolours, in particular my subjects are: cow, donkey, hen, cat, owl, turtle, frog, rabbit, rooster, goat... but especially the SHEEP. My designs are shown on different objects – cards, posters, t-shirts, mugs, magnets etc.
The wood-panelled dining room normally has a large table and chairs set up for a grand feast with silver and crystal.
SAVEURS & CIE make products of fine local ingredients: 14 varieties of salts from Aigues-Mortes, ginger syrups, fresh plant syrups, honeys, varieties of gingerbread, soaps with goat's milk. All the ingredients for the products are natural and handmade.
