Family day at Midi Cricket Club
Midi Cricket Club launches their season with a Family Day get-together.
The Languedoc’s only cricket club launched its 2016 season with a well-attended Family Day held at its St Pons de Mauchiens ground on Sunday 24 April.
We asked them to tell us about the day...
Though the weather was cool and blustery, more than 60 players, family and friends turned out for a barbeque and a friendly all-comers’ cricket match on the village’s lovely ground.
Basking in the success of its best-ever season in its 10th anniversary year, Midi Cricket Club President Marc Dalling (pictured) was optimistic that the 2016 squad would perform even better than last year.
The club also welcomed some new faces at the annual Family Day and signed up some new social members.
The club is proud of its role in the community and has a true multi-ethnic mix with players of French, Indian, South African, English, Dutch and American extraction.
The weight of experience in the club will be boosted by the raw experience and enthusiasm of its two French youngsters, Pierre and Lucas Zivanovic, products of the club’s junior programme.
The club, which plays in the Midi-Pyrenees Division of the National League, opens its 2016 campaign on Saturday, 7 May at home to Toulouse CC.
The Toulouse match will be followed by a friendly double-header on May 14/15 against a touring team from Andorra who enjoyed their weekend at St Pons so much last year, they want to do it all again in 2016.
“The club always makes touring teams very welcome and they appreciate our hospitality,” said Club President Marc Dalling. “We also had two very competitive matches against them.”
You can find more about them on their website here, and I’m sure they will welcome new visitors for their opening match against Toulouse on the 7th May.
