Finally action to combat long wait for eye tests?

LanguedocLiving, Oct 5

The official state watchdog La Cour des Comptes have issued a report this week, about patients experiencing long delays to get a consolation with an ophthalmologist, even in an emergency.

Opticians are only currently allowed to renew or slightly tweak prescriptions, and are not allowed to take on new patients independently.

According to the report, this may be changing. The report suggests that “widening of the services” could be an option, to take advantage of the 35,718 opticians versus the 4,643 fully-trained ophthalmologists in clinics and hospitals.
