Fine of €68 euros for urinating in carpark

One of the sights which we’ve all had to get used to in France, is men urinating by the side of the road. In fact, this act is illegal, although most police turn a blind eye to it.

A Nîmes family, driving in the countryside near Génolhac, Gard, will be paying the cost of such behaviour. Their 20 year old son, Alexandre, asked to stop at a carpark outside the village, to relieve himself.

Police saw the incident, stopped, and issued a fine of €68. Thinking it was a joke, the family carried on with their journey, but they received the fine through the post. Despite pleas to drop the fine, the courts were insistent, and the fine stands.
