Fire on 12th floor in Bagnols-sur-Cèze

On Wednesday night at 1:30am Gard firefighters were called out for a fire in an apartment building, located at 8 Allée des Cèdres,Bagnols-sur-Cèze.

Firefighters arrived quickly on the scene, and they were confronted with an apartment completely engulfed in fire in a building of 14 floors with 88 dwellings. The fire was on the 12th floor.

They evacuated 200 occupants of the building, some of whom had taken refuge on the roof, and then managed to prevent the fire from spreading to other apartments.

Firefighters made the macabre discovery of a woman who had died in the apartment which was on fire. 11 other people had smoke inhalation injuries.

In total, 20 vehicles and 40 firefighters from the Gard were supported by teams from Nîmes, Orange and Avignon and Vaucluse.

At this stage, the cause of the fire is unknown.
