Firefighter has fatal fall in Pyrenees
A 56 year old firefighter went hiking in the Pyrenees on Friday, accompanied by a friend, also a firefighter.
The firefighters from Lot-et-Garonne, left Astau near the village of Oô, at around 9 am on Friday to climb a snow-covered summit.
When they were descending from the ridge, disaster struck. The firefighter stepped on an unstable block and was unbalanced. He fell 200 metres to his death.
The rescue team arrived but were unable to resuscitate him. “The victim would have died instantly”, said a spokesperson from the CRS at Lannemezan.
