First successful flight for the Airbus A330-800

MidiLibre/Scoop, Nov 6

The new member of the A330 Neo Airbus family flew for the first time from Toulouse Blagnac airport. The aircraft manufacturer intends to make the A330-800 the competitor of the Boeing 787.

The date was set at the last moment, due to the weather conditions. On Tuesday morning at 10:31, the A330-800 took off into the Toulouse sky.

The inaugural flight went smoothly.

The A330-800 Neo can fly 15,000 kilometres. It can accommodate up to 406 passengers, divided into three classes.  Airbus promises airlines a "significant reduction in fuel consumption".

Kuwait Airways has ordered eight, and Uganda Airlines two. Deliveries of the planes will begin in 2019.
