Floods, violent storms and mudslides in Occitanie

LanguedocLiving, Sep 6

Parts of Occitanie were hit by violent storms on Wednesday night / Thursday morning.

In and around Nîmes there was a significant electrical storm, and heavy rainfall for two hours. Roads were flooded very quickly, and some of the smaller roads were blocked for some time before the water drained away.

In the Gard a total of 32mm of rain fell in 20 minutes.

Violent storms also hit Hautes-Pyrénées and Haute-Garonne, where hail (see picture) and flooding also occurred, in particular at Saint-Pé de Bigorre.

In Ariège there was a mudslide, and several vehicles near Lézat-sur-Lèze got stuck. Drivers and passengers had to be rescued.

Hérault, Aude, Lozère and Pyrénées-Orientales were on orange alert for storms until Thursday evening.
