Former mayor in prison for sexual abuse

France 3/Scoop, Apr 1

The former mayor of Belmont-Sainte-Foi, Lot, has been sentenced to five years in prison.

On Friday, Erik Salgues was in court to answer to claims that in 2014 he raped and sexually assaulted three women. He has always denied these claims, although he acknowledged extramarital relationships.

After seven hours of deliberations, the jury found him not guilty of rape and attempted rapes, but guilty of sexual abuse on one of the three complainants. He will carry out his sentence at Montauban prison.
