Free holidays for under-privileged families

France 3/Scoop, Apr 27

Thanks to a scheme to help under-privileged families, holidays are starting in Gruissan, Aude this week.

For 100 families from all over France, holidays began on Friday in the Aude. This year, the association has allowed 400 under privileged people to stay in a campsite in Narbonne-Plage.

A lunch on the terrace of their mobile home - a holiday scene that seems ordinary for some, but not for this Aude family. It’s been many years since Veronique, Emmanuel and their twins had a holiday. They come from Carcassonnne, just 70km away, but during the four days on the beach, they will be able to forget their financial worries.

Everything is planned out, and activities are numerous … on the beach and along the coast.

A total of 100 families are welcomed for four days. Half of them come from Paris, the other from Occitanie.

According to a 2014 survey, the Aude is the department of France whose families have the least holidays - only one in three can afford a holiday.
