Gers football match ends in a violent fight
The football match between Cugnaux-Villeneuve and Pays-Basse-Ariège last Sunday ended in a fist fight. A young player from Cugnaux was knocked out and beaten while he was unconscious. He was hospitalised in Purpan Hospital in Toulouse for a serious head injury.
The meeting between Cugnaux-Villeneuve and the club of Pays-Basse-Ariège degenerated into a general fight at the final whistle. The football match was taking place on the Saint-Jean-du-Falga field near Foix. As the players shook hands after Cugnaux-Villeneuve's 2-0 victory, a clash broke out between a spectator and one of the Cugnaux-Villeneuve team players.
The 18-year-old was allegedly punched hard in the face before losing consciousness for several minutes. According to his trainer who was present at the time of the fight, other individuals carried on hitting him while he was lying on the ground unconscious.
The young victim regained consciousness before being transported to the hospital. The player has a hematoma in the head, and is still in hospital.
The club Cugnaux-Villeneuve and the family of the injured player complained to the police, and an investigation has been opened to determine who was responsible.
