Gérard Collomb in Garons for forest fire campaign
The Interior Minister Gérard Collomb, was traveling to Nîmes on Thursday, for the launch of the campaign against forest fires. He visited Garons airport, the site of the planes and helicopters owned by the Civil Security and Crisis Management (DGSCGC), the organisation responsible for putting out forest fires.
They prepare the control plans in advance and analyse the fire risk on a permanent basis.
The organisation also has significant human and material resources: 70,000 firefighters trained to fight against forest fires, as well as a multi-purpose air fleet, based in Nîmes-Garons. They have 23 water bombers, 3 reconnaissance aircraft and 11 helicopters.
The objective of the summer prevention system is that the intervention can be done in less than 10 minutes after the detection of fire.
While the minister was on site, he also inaugurated SECOAS, the Training Simulator for the Coordination of Emergency Aerial Operations.
