Hero by name, hero by nature
A Bessan man was saved from a wild boar by his courageous dog named Hero.
Patrick Gault and his dog were walking as they normally did, twice a day, in Bessan at the side of Ribote. The man noticed some mushrooms near a grove, and started picking them.
He looked up when he heard a noise, and was confronted with an angry boar charging at him. Hero the dog jumped on the boar’s back and fought the boar off his owner. The boar retreated, but not before injuring the dog.
Patrick is very grateful. “I’m alive today,” he explained, “because Hero got between me and the wild boar.. Hero’s hurt, but I have no injuries from the boar which could easily have killed me.”
Hero was seriously injured in his thigh, and Patrick took him to a veterinary clinic where he had surgery.
“I was afraid he had a very serious injury, because often the wild boar’s tusks pierce the flesh, and break the bones. He was lucky to escape with torn muscles. Children play in this area, and no-one seems worried about it.”
Since the attack, the local hunting fraternity have been contacted by the Maire to ‘eliminate the problem’.
