How to combat the pesky box tree moth
Several readers wrote in with advice about how to deal with the box tree moth which we reported on yesterday.
Here are some of the suggestions.
"You're generally looking to kill the caterpillars. Products with deltamethrin are recommended - normally found in greenfly spray. Pyrethrum is another bug spray that should be successful.
Lastly, any spray with lambda-cyhalothrin in it should work."
"You can tell if you have box moths because you will see a fine cobweb on the bush or tree, and the leaves will start to die very quickly. A temporary cure is to spray with the same insect repellent recommended for leeks. The caterpillars will reappear after a few weeks, so you will need to repeat this process."
