Imam under the microscope for preachings

France 3/Scoop, Jun 29

Prosecutors are deciding whether to open up an investigation into the preachings of Mohamed Tataï, the Imam from the Great Mosque of Toulouse, which was inaugurated last weekend.

Prosecuters want to determine if remarks made by him in a video taken outside the mosque can constitute an incitement to hate.

This investigation was initiated by the prefect of Haute-Garonne after the publication of a video on social networks of the Toulouse Imam preaching in Arabic with English subtitles.

In the video, published by the website Memri TV, Mohamed Tataï refers to texts that call on Muslims to beat Jews.

The police will first have the video translated by a sworn interpreter before the Toulouse prosecutor's office decides on further investigation.
