Jour de Fête chez les Dragons
Catalans 44-16 Castleford Tigers
Having listened to the last two Dragon Catalans matches on local radio it was great to be back at Stade Gilbert Brutus with a large crowd in sunshine. The 33 degree hear certainly had an effect on the play necessitating a few “water” stops.
Although the score suggests a walk over and the Catalans were quick to get an early lead, the Tigers fought back. By half time the Dragons were leading 30-10. A solid defence kept the Tigers from making the most of their opportunities in the second half, and looked very weary as the full-time whistle blew.
Much praise has to go to Australian Josh Drinkwater who was man of the match and scored a hat trick of tries and kicked 6 goals….24 of the 44 points. Since he joined the club this season the Dragons have won six of their eight matches. Aussie Greg Bird also deserves a mention with a great performance. Besides scoring a try he had a hand in a number of others.
This was a significant win against a team who are fourth in the Super League table. It means Dragons are on the “septième marche“ of the table & out of the bottom four.
A very happy home crowd of supporters clapped heartily as the players did the tour of the ground and lingered on, to enjoy the success of the biggest score this season and most tries in a game.
