Lidl store raided in Montpellier

France 3/Scoop, Jan 4

Thieves walked away with several thousand euros from a Lidl store in the Près d’Arènes quarter in Montpellier on Wednesday morning.

They broke in through the back door at 6am, and waited for the manager to arrive. Police say that the criminals, hooded and armed, probably knew that a Van Brinks security vehicle was due that morning to take away the cash.

They forced the manager to hand over all the takings from the festive period, and then escaped before the arrival of the security vehicle.

The same store was robbed a few months ago.

Montpellier police have opened an enquiry.
