Macron reiterates support for UK

Politico, Mar 15

UK evidence of Russian responsibility for the Salisbury poisoning makes it clear there is “no other plausible explanation” for the incident, the office of President Emmanuel Macron said in a statement Thursday.

“Since the start of the week, Britain has kept France closely informed of the evidence gathered by British investigators and of elements demonstrating Russian responsibility in the attack,” according to the statement, which was issued following a phone call between Macron and Prime Minister Theresa May.

“France shares Britain’s assessment that there is no other plausible explanation and reiterates its solidarity with his ally,” the statement said.

The French Embassy earlier published a series of tweets insisting “France’s solidarity with the UK is unquestionable,” in response to suggestions in the British press that France was equivocating on the issue.
