Maltreated animals from the Gard given to an SPA

France 3/Scoop, Apr 10

In total 15 animals were found to be malnourished and abused in Fourques, Gard. Horses, cattle and a pig were handed over to Brigitte Bardot’s Association, pending a court decision about the owner. A cow had to be put down on the spot because it was so badly maltreated and in agony.

The findings of mistreatment were made by Gard authorities, having had the tip off from the Society for the Protection of Animals (SPA) of Baux-de-Provence.

The owner of an animal who does not respect their obligations, in this case lack of care, inappropriate conditions, and deprivation of food, can be punished with a €750 fine.

In the event of the conviction of the owner, the court may decide that the animal welfare association should keep them, and eventually re-house them elsewhere.
