Mayonnaise containing engine oil on sale

LanguedocLiving, May 14

Mayonnaise on supermarket shelves may contain engine oil, revealed Le Canard Enchaîné, after it emerged that a company in Ukraine has sold 40,000 tonnes of sunflower oil with an addition of 280 tonnes of engine oil in Europe.

Lesieur, alerted French fraud police that it had bought the polluted product.

On 26 April shops started removing the products from their shelves.

But last week the authorities declared it was not necessary to withdraw products containing less than 10 percent engine oil because there was no "acute toxicity".
