Method of learning English that fits in briefcase
By the admission of most of the French, including the press, the standard of English in schools is at best mediocre, even though it has improved in the last few years.
A Toulouse ex-teacher, Sophie Martinez, has created an innovative method by using a game to teach students. Hubertine Auclert college in Toulouse is experimenting with the method.
The key to the system is a small wooden briefcase full of cards. Called “Still English”, the idea is to have fun in a small group by creating sentences using the cards.
According to the teacher of the students who are experimenting with it, this method is a good way to promote more fluidity, and it seems to be working. Students are less shy to speak, and even answered the journalist in English.
Sophie Martinez, the inventor, hopes to convince the national education board to make her method a reference tool, so that students can become “so British!”
