Minister confirms suspension of university staff

MidiLibre/Scoop, Mar 29

The Dean of the law faculty at Montpellier University, and a teacher also associated with a violent attack on law students last week, have been officially suspended.

Frédérique Vidal, the Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, has confirmed that her decision “following the first conclusions of the administrative investigation” is to suspend the parties involved.

Law students who were protesting in a lecture theatre last week, about new changes in the law to admit students to the University, were stormed by men in balaclavas, and attacked with wooden sticks. Students maintain that one of the attackers was a teacher, and that the Dean knew about the attack before it happened.

Investigations are under way. In the meantime, the department remains closed until at least next Tuesday.
