Montpellier-Nîmes train hits blocks of stone

France 3/Scoop, Apr 8

This Saturday, April 7, a TER Montpellier-Nîmes train hit blocks of stone on the line. No one was injured, but police are saying that the stones were thrown on the line on purpose.

The incident took place around 7:30pm near Le Crès, Hérault. Some young people were spotted on a bridge, leading to the hypothesis that it was an act of malice.

The train braking system was damaged but no injuries were reported among the 150 passengers on the train.

Passengers were transported to their destination by buses and another train. The damaged TER was towed to Montpellier, the sources said.

SNCF indicated on Twitter that “People were seen throwing stones on trains near Montpellier.” According to the tweets, the stones were thrown in Baillargues, a few kilometres after Le Crès, going towards Nîmes.

Two separate trains were targeted.
