Napoleon’s hat fetches 350,000 euros at auction

LanguedocLiving, Jun 19

The hat thought to have belonged to Napoleon Bonaparte was sold for €350,000 euros at an auction in Lyon on Monday.

The expectation was that the hat would fetch €30,000-€40,000, but the final price far exceeded that.

"There's a sort of craze going on with historical souvenirs, in particular those from Napoleon," the auctioneer told AFP.

There is no conclusive proof that the hat even belonged to Napoleon, but there are some distinctive features, such as the missing internal band, which Napoleon always had removed.
