Narbonne hit by gilets jaunes again

On Saturday during the day and most of the evening, the A9 was severely damaged with fires caused by the gilets jaunes at Narbonne South (38), Perpignan South (42), and Agde (34), VINCI Autoroutes reported.

On Sunday traffic was still disturbed due to the damage done on Saturday. On Sunday the A9 opened again between Montpellier and Béziers in both directions. but exits 34 and 38 were still closed.

Five people, including a minor, were arrested at the Narbonne junction, after a demonstration of 200 violent gilets jaunes was broken up by police. The damage was already done though, with a fire at the peage and the Vinci buildings. Molotov cocktails were thrown by the group. No one was injured.

Some demonstrations continue on the motorway network, including Roquemaure, Lunel, Sète, Béziers Ouest and Sigean. To follow the traffic conditions: click here.
